There are many cases when it is advisable to freeze sperm. These include men who are about to undergo surgery, chemotherapy or radiotherapy that may impair their future fertility, men who have very few sperm or are producing sperm that show evidence of deterioration over time. A few men have difficulty producing a sample on the day of treatment and therefore opt to freeze a sample of sperm in advance.
Sperm can be successfully frozen for up to ten years.
