Oxford Fertility Unit

Receiving donor eggs

Some women are unable to produce eggs of their own and therefore use eggs that are donated through our egg sharing programme.

Egg donors have genetic screening tests as well as tests for infectious diseases prior to undergoing an IVF treatment cycle and egg collection. The recipient's partner's sperm is then used to fertilise these donated eggs.

Our waiting list is currently open but there is a waiting time of approximately 12 - 18 months for donor eggs. Some women are able to recruit their own donor and this does reduce the waiting time for treatment. We are happy to provide further information or you may wish to contact the National Gamete Donation Trust .

Due to the shortage of donor eggs, we can only accept potential recipients who:
  • are under 46 years of age;
  • have a BMI of under 30;
  • are non-smokers (both partners);
  • are patients who have received treatment at Oxford Fertility Unit and donor eggs have been recommended, or patients living in the area covered by PCTs with whom we have an NHS contract;
  • have no child born or adopted within their relationship (This does not include those who have children already with another partner.);
