Donor insemination is available to couples where the male partner has a severe sperm problem, or to same sex couples or single women.
It is a comparatively simple treatment performed in the middle of a normal cycle. Semen is placed in the neck of the womb in a procedure similar to having a smear test.
Donors undergo genetic screening, are tested for infectious diseases and are matched to couples for height, build, hair and eye colour, where possible.
We have our own panel of donors and also purchase semen from other centres registered with the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA).
Of the women who achieve a pregnancy with DI treatment 78% of them will be pregnant within three cycles of treatment.
