Delivering the benefits of world class research

The Oxford Fertility Unit is delivering hope to more women and couples in Britain than ever before. Through its close association with the University of Oxford, the Unit is able to offer increasingly sophisticated IVF and IVM fertility treatments, vastly improving the chances of a successful pregnancy for many women.

As the first clinic in the UK to be licensed to perform In Vitro Maturation procedures (IVM) in January 2007, Oxford Fertility Unit is now achieving world-beating success rates, offering a viable alternative to standard IVF treatment for women up to 38 years of age who have polycystic ovaries.

In 2007, the Unit applied to the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA) for permission to bring a new method of screening embryos for genetic conditions to the UK, a method which has been proven in America to more than double the success rate for couples undergoing IVF treatment.

Enda McVeigh, Medical Director of Oxford Fertility Unit comments, “Through our ongoing commitment to research and development we are striving to achieve single embryo transfer with the best possible results. Oxford Fertility Unit is involved in many worldwide research programmes with an overall objective of helping women achieve a healthy birth with least risk to mother and child.”

Oxford Fertility Unit has been operational since 1984. Approximately 1000 IVF cycles per year are carried out in this IVF unit with HFEA tables showing it to be the most successful unit in this area and in the top 20 (out of 75) in the country. The unit was the first to obtain ISO 9001 quality management certification in the UK and the first and only centre in the UK to obtain a licence to carry out In Vitro Maturation (IVM) of egg for IVF.

The Unit is able to offer a wide range of fertility treatments including; Intra-uterine insemination (IUI), In-Vitro Fertilisation (IVF), In-Vitro Maturation (IVM) Intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), Preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD), Surgical sperm retrieval (SSR), Donor Insemination (DI), IVF with donor sperm/eggs and storage of sperm, eggs and embryos. In addition, the Unit has its own andrology laboratory, where tests are undertaken to investigate male infertility.
