Many patients attending the Oxford Fertility Unit pay for their own treatment. However, some patients are able to receive treatment cycles paid for by their local Primary Care Trust (PCT). The eligibility criteria vary in different geographical areas and patients are advised to check with their own PCT.
Some patients choose to reduce the cost of their treatment cycles by joining our egg/sperm sharing programmes.

Patients having treatment at another unit
We appreciate that travelling to another centre for treatment can be time consuming and stressful. Consequently we can assist with your treatment cycle by taking blood samples, performing scans or undertaking other investigations. However we require written instructions in English stating exactly what is required and when. We also need to know who to contact and how (phone, fax, letter or e-mail).
All the above information must be available on or before the first appointment with us.
In order for us to pass any information about you to the treating centre we also need both partners to sign a consent form agreeing to disclosure.
Please note that as your treatment is organised and carried out by another Centre, we are unable to prescribe any drugs required; your prescription must come from the clinic responsible for the treatment cycle. We are very happy to perform tests and scans but we are not able to advise on any aspect of your treatment and any results must be discussed with the treating Centre.
The Oxford Fertility Unit is patient funded and it is therefore necessary that we charge the following for your appointments:
- A referral/copy of your notes - £40.00;
- Cystic Fibrosis - £155.00;
- Karyotyping - £210.00;
- Ultrasound scan - £150.00;
- Hepatitis B - £70.00;
- Hepatitis C - £65.00;
- HIV - £40.00;
- Rubella - £40.00;
- CMV - £70.00;
- Beta hCG - £40.00;
- Oestrogen - £40.00;
Payment is by cash, credit card or cheque, payable on the day of your appointment.
Where possible we endeavour to give you an appointment date and time as required. However, it may not always be possible to accommodate this.

Cancellation charges
If you cancel an IVF treatment cycle at any stage before egg collection, a full refund will be given less a £500 administration fee.
If a cycle of DI, IUI or AIH treatment is booked but then cancelled there is an administrative charge of £130.
How to pay
Payments for treatment cycles should be made prior to the date of the down regulation blood test for fresh or frozen cycles or at your first visit for any other treatment. An invoice will be sent to you together with your schedule once you have booked your appointment.
Payments may be made by debit/credit card either over the telephone or in person. Cheques should be made payable to “Oxford Fertility Unit” and sent to:
